We are monitoring Hurricane Idalia, currently located west of southern Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. Idalia is forecasted to intensify into a major hurricane (Category 3) before landfall.
While it is not certain, our most detailed modeling projects that the sustained Category 3 and Category 2 winds may not reach shore. Conditions may change and at this level of intensity, Idalia is a major threat. The hurricane will bring life-threatening storm surge and dangerous hurricane-force winds in the projected impact zone along the west coast of Florida and the Florida Panhandle. A few tornadoes will be possible along its path as well.
Tropical storm conditions from the outer bands will begin impacting Florida today.
There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge inundation along portions of the Florida Gulf Coast, including Tampa Bay and the Big Bend region of Florida. Inundation of 10 to 15 feet above ground level along with destructive waves are expected somewhere between Yankeetown and Aucilla River.
Idalia is expected to bring heavy rain of 4 to 8 inches to portions of the west coast of Florida, the Florida Panhandle, southeast Georgia and the eastern Carolinas from Tuesday into Thursday. Isolated higher totals of 12 inches are possible, primarily near landfall in northern Florida. This rainfall may lead to flooding in Florida, southern Georgia and spreading into portions of the eastern Carolinas.
Storm Preparedness
Operations and Claims staff continue to follow their catastrophe plans for Idalia.
Measures include:
Proactive outbound calling to agents/carriers
Evaluating staffing adjustments for the First Notice of Loss team
Ensuring that our catastrophe claims adjusters and vendors are prepared
Tracking insurance regulation updates that may impact our business
